The 66th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Hazza Al-Majali Falls Today
Al-Taj News – The 66th anniversary of the martyrdom of former Prime Minister Hazza Al-Majali falls today, Saturday, August 29, one of the most prominent statesmen of Jordan during the founding period, who dedicated his life to serving Jordan and defending its national interests.
The martyr Al-Majali was born in 1917 and received his education at several schools in the Kingdom before studying law in Damascus. He then returned to Jordan to work in the Royal Protocol Department, before embarking on a distinguished political and administrative career, during which he held a number of positions and responsibilities.
Al-Majali served as Mayor of Amman and held several ministerial portfolios. He was also elected as a member of parliament representing the Karak area and served as Minister of Interior before forming his first government in 1955, followed by his second government in 1959, during a period that witnessed successive political, economic, and regional challenges.
Al-Majali was known for his courage, clarity of position, and commitment to the independence of national decision-making. During his tenure, he also paid attention to developing state institutions and enhancing their performance, in addition to his interest in developing the media and radio and utilizing national expertise in building modern state institutions.
On the morning of Monday, August 29, 1960, while carrying out his duties at the Prime Ministry building and receiving citizens, a treacherous explosion targeted the government headquarters, resulting in his martyrdom along with a number of senior officials and citizens, bringing to an end the career of a statesman who was no more than 43 years old.
The name of Hazza Al-Majali has remained present in Jordanian national memory as one of the statesmen whose legacy was associated with an important period in the history of the Kingdom and with the contributions and sacrifices they made in building its institutions and consolidating its national approach.
